It's that time of year again where I bulk order the elderberries and make several batches of syrup for our family and I usually make a couple extra bottles to give a few friends as gifts. There's something about the crisp air and the cooler mornings that gets our body feeling like it needs a little extra support & thats when we know that it's time to have this ready and at hand in the fridge. Now, you can, in a pinch grab elderberry at the store - but let's face it. It's not as good as homemade and it works out WAY more expensive than if you make it. Plus the recipe is super easy! In this recipe you can leave out the essential oils if you prefer, however - I truly believe it gives a little extra kick. ELDERBERRY SYRUP RECIPE 2 cups dried organic Elderberries 4 cups water 1 cup raw local honey 3-8 drops of Thieves Vitality Essential Oil (add sufficient drops to your liking) To make the syrup, simply place the berries & water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Smash the berries to release the remaining juice and strain the mixture. Allow to cool and stir in the honey and the Thieves Essential Oil. Transfer to mason jar or glass bottle and cool completely in the refrigerator. Will last for 2-3 months if stored in the fridge.
