You would be totally justified in your thinking if you might be
wondering "what exactly does Uganda have to do with all this?"...
and well, here I am to tell you a little bit about how it fits together
as a big piece of the puzzle that makes me, well, me.

 

You see, Uganda has come to be part of my Story. Little did I know just how much of a role it would play until in 2015 I found myself in Dallas Fort Worth, TX at a workshop hosted by a beautiful soul who I have come to call friend.

She told story after story of her recent trip to Uganda, and as she did, my heart connected with something deep down within my soul that I hadn't really ever known was even there. It awoke a voice within me that said "you must go"... and so when she put a team together to go and serve, you bet your bottom dollar I was there with her.

That first trip of mine was in July 2016, and I returned in January of 2018. During both trips, I came to know a place and a people I loved. A culture where I felt connected and where I longed to serve. While what I've witnessed there is often heavy and hard, my heart has a certain lightness to it while I'm there. It's hard to truly explain, but I will say Uganda is the place where I found my voice. That very voice that would advocate for the minority, the broken, the fallen and the downtrodden. That voice that would yell and scream and shout for what was right and would also whisper to their heart "it's going to be okay".

I found that my life purpose here on this earth is true deep human connection... not the 2018 kind of connection that comes with likes and comments on social media. No, not that. The kind of connection that comes when you see people, when you know people and when you really hear people.

And so... if you're wondering what Uganda has to do with this place here, my answer to you is a wholehearted EVERYTHING.
